Cold Process Soap Making Workshop for Beginners
What is Cold Process Soapmaking?
CPSM is a traditional natural method of soap making. Most commercial bars are not actually soap at all, they are mostly ‘synthetic detergent’ bars.
With the traditional CPSM method you are making your soap from scratch using oils and butters (which may need to be gently melted). The soap making process creates a glycerine rich soap which is highly moisturising for your skin. In mass produced soap making the glycerine is extracted and sold as a valuable by-product.
What will I learn on the workshop?
This is a fully hands-on workshop, working in small friendly groups.
We will teach you about oils and the properties they bring to soap, and how to develop a basic soap formula. You will then make a batch of soap from beginning to end using a pre-determined formula.
You will be taken through each stage of the process and trained thoroughly in all aspects of safety, particularly when handling lye (Sodium Hydroxide and water) and how to use a Lye Calculator.
You will learn the different options for colouring, fragrancing and using botanical additives in your soap.
You will also receive comprehensive notes for the course and get to keep all soap that you make on our courses to impress your family and friends with!
Do I need prior experience?
There is no prior experience required just a willingness to experience the joy of creating your own soaps from scratch, whether its for your own personal use, or to fan a desire to start a soap business.
Where, when and how much are classes?
In addition to open courses which will be announced from time to time, we offer one-to-one/small group workshops. Duration is usually about 3 hours.

I don’t have any classes scheduled this quarter, but things can change. I will definitely let you know.
Re acne soap, I cannot claim any of the soaps can clear dark marks from acne but someone buys the salt bar with activated charcoal and she says so far (most of this year) it’s hasn’t caused her to break out. She follows up with an oil moisturizer with some acne fighting essential oils mixed. Another lady buys just plain activated charcoal coconut oil soap (without the salt) for the same reason.
I’ve read many articles about fading acne scars but I’ve honestly not tried any for myself.

The oils are a coconut oil/tea tree/lavender/rosemary/lemon. So in short you have antiseptic, anti inflammatory, etc properties all mixed in. I infuse my coconut oil with calendula.
